Aguas Frescas: Make Your Own Refreshing Mexican Fruity Drink

Aguas frescas are refreshing fruity drinks that are traditionally served all over Mexico. Aguas frescas translates literally to “fresh waters” and are wonderful drinks on a hot summer day. You can easily make aguas frescas at home. They are simply a mixture of fresh fruit blended with sugar and water. Start with these recipes and then experiment with other fruits. 

Basic Recipe for Aqua Fresca (see individual recipes for amounts)

Fruit

Water 

Sugar

Fresh lime juice


Puree fruit in a blender with water and sugar in small batches until it is all processed. Strain into a large pitcher and stir in fresh lime juice. Chill for at least four hours and stir before serving.


Watermelon Aqua Fresca

8 cups cubed seeded watermelon

1-1/2 cups water

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup fresh lime juice

Honeydew Agua Fresca

6 cups cubed honeydew melon

1-1/2 cups water

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup fresh lime juice

Peach Agua Fresca

12 peeled, pitted, and chopped fresh peaches

1-1/2 cups water

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup fresh lime juice

Strawberry Agua Fresca

1 pound strawberries, stems removed and sliced

2 cups water

1/3 cup sugar

1/4 cup fresh lime juice
